Keeping your air ducts clean is an important part of keeping your home healthy. Air duct cleaning helps keep your air quality clean, which is particularly important for those that suffer from asthma, respiratory diseases, or allergies. Because of this, you should hire a professional air duct cleaning service to come and clean your air ducts on a semi-regular basis.

This is not something that you can do on your own, especially when considering how complicated an air duct system is – trying to clean them yourself can result in costly damage. However, there are a number of things you can do to keep your air ducts from getting really dirty in the first place.

Air Duct Cleaning Tips

The following are a few tips for keeping your air ducts as clean as possible:

  • Change your filters

  • Your air filters are what help to trap dust and debris inside of your air ducts, thereby preventing that dust and debris from circulating throughout your home. However, once that dust and debris build up, your HVAC system is going to begin having a difficult time moving air through the filters, resulting in a drop in inefficiency.
  • This, in turn, will cause your energy bills to go up. It will also cause dust and debris to begin building up in your registers, which will eventually affect the quality of your air – so be sure to change your air filters on a regular basis! Invest in higher quality air filters, such as electrostatic filters, for added protection.
  • Use electric filters

  • Electric filters are even more effective at capturing dust and debris than fiberglass or electrostatic filters. This is because they generate an electrostatic charge that draws more airborne particulates to it. Some even have UV light components that kill bacteria and fungal spores.
  • Clean the registers

  • While you can’t clean your entire duct system on your own, you can remove the vent covers and dust the space.

These tips will help keep your HVAC system working efficiently – but remember, although they keep your air ducts cleaned, you’ll still need to hire a professional air duct cleaning service.
